Foil Stamped Hang Tags

A hang tag is the first physical piece of your brand a customer touches. If it still looks like a leftover rectangle, the product reads cheaper than it is. Foil stamping fixes that in one step: a metallic logo or brand name that genuinely reflects light — on the rack, in a photograph, in someone’s hand.

At printshaQ we produce foil stamped hang tags the same way we produce foil stamped business cards: real hot foil stamping, using heat, pressure and a metal die. Not a digital gold ink that goes flat in person. Foil arrives pre-selected on this page, so the price you see is the price of a foil tag rather than a blank one you have to upgrade.

What Are Foil Stamped Hang Tags?

Foil stamped hang tags are custom product tags with metallic or pigmented foil pressed into the surface of the stock. Because the foil sits on top rather than being printed into the fibre, it catches light from every angle — which is why it photographs well and why it reads as expensive on a shop floor.

The vocabulary shifts depending on where you or your manufacturer trained. In the UK, Australia and New Zealand these are swing tags, or swing tickets in British retail. You will also hear garment tags, apparel tags, retail tags and price tags. The process has aliases too: foil blocking in Britain, hot foil stamping almost everywhere else. If you arrived searching for foil blocked swing tags, you are in the right place — same die, same press, same result.

For a walk through how the process actually works, see our guide: What Is Foil Stamping?

Why Foil Hang Tags Work

  • They survive a thumbnail. Product photography and image search are real routes to your store, and foil is one of the few finishes still legible at small sizes.
  • They read as deliberate. Foil requires a die and a press. Customers register that something was decided, even when they cannot name what.
  • They isolate one idea. A brand name, a monogram, a single icon — the point is contrast, not covering the tag in metal.
  • They carry across a kit. The same foil vocabulary runs through cards, folders, boxes and tissue, so the whole package looks like one brand rather than four suppliers.

Available Foil Colors

The full foil range we run on cards and specialty work is available here:

  • Gold, Silver and Rose Gold
  • Matte Gold and Matte Silver
  • Black, White, Red and Blue
  • Copper, Green, Pink and Purple

Need an exact brand color on the printed areas around the foil? We offer PMS color matching. Give us the foil color and its location in the special instructions when you order.

Who Uses Foil Hang Tags

Foil suits categories where the buyer is already paying for presentation:

  • Jewelry. Gold foil on a black suede tag beside a gold piece, so the tag and the product agree.
  • Wine, spirits and specialty drinks. A neck tag with a foil crest does the job a label cannot, because it moves independently of the bottle.
  • Cosmetics and skincare. Rose gold reads instantly as premium in this category and photographs beautifully on white.
  • Luxury and bridal apparel. When a garment retails in the hundreds, an unfoiled tag is the weakest thing in the box.
  • Candles and home fragrance. Copper or matte gold against uncoated stock, warm rather than shiny.

Foil Stamped vs Plain Printed Hang Tags

A standard printed hang tag does the job: it carries the price, the size and your name. Nothing wrong with it, and for high-volume basics it is often the right answer — see our standard hang tag printing.

Foil changes what the tag communicates rather than what it says. Ink sits flat and absorbs light; foil sits proud and returns it. Held side by side, the printed tag looks like packaging and the foiled tag looks like part of the product. If your margin depends on being perceived as premium, that difference is worth more than it costs.

Premium Upgrades on the Same Tag

Foil is already selected here. You can stack anything else on the same tag:

  • Embossing or debossing — raise the foiled area itself, or texture a separate element. See embossed hang tags.
  • Spot UV — gloss against a matte field, which reads differently to metal. See spot UV hang tags.
  • Die cutting — a custom silhouette instead of a rectangle. See die cut hang tags.
  • Colored or foiled edges — on thicker stocks, a painted or metallic edge visible from the side.

Stocks That Hold Foil

Foil needs a surface that takes heat and pressure without buckling. Our range:

  • 16pt — the everyday weight, right for larger retail runs
  • 32pt — noticeably substantial, the most popular premium choice
  • 48pt — thick and rigid, and the best base if you also want painted edges
  • 22pt black suede — the highest-contrast surface we offer for gold and silver

Available in silk matte lamination, suede lamination, uncoated cotton, uncoated smooth and UV high gloss. If you already like a stock from velvet suede or natural uncoated, we can foil on those families too.

Sizes, Hole Punching and String

Our standard size is 2" x 3.5", the same footprint as a business card and what most tagging guns and retail rails expect. We also print 1.5" x 3.5", 1.75" x 3.5", 2" x 2", 2.5" x 2.5", 2" x 4", 2" x 6" and 3" x 3". Need something outside that list? Contact us and we will quote it.

Every tag can be punched top center, top left or top right, in 4mm, 5mm or 6mm — fine thread, standard hang tag string, or thicker cord and ribbon respectively. If the hole belongs somewhere unusual, tell us in the special instructions.

String is available and can be added to your order, so the tags arrive ready to attach rather than waiting on a second supplier.

Artwork Setup for Foil Hang Tags

  • Print-ready PDF, fonts outlined, 300 DPI, CMYK
  • A separate black-and-white foil mask showing precisely where the foil lands — solid black for foil, white for everything else
  • Vector artwork foils best. Hairlines and very fine serifs can fill in under pressure
  • Keep type and logos inside the safe margin, and extend background color to bleed
  • Zip the print file and every mask together before uploading

Have a logo but no tag layout? Choose the design option at checkout and our team will build it.

Not Sure Which Finish?

  • Choose foil stamped hang tags when you want metallic shine on the name or mark.
  • Choose embossed hang tags when you want texture without metal.
  • Choose spot UV hang tags when you want gloss against matte.
  • Choose die cut hang tags when the shape itself is the brand.

Browse every specialty print finish, or start from hang tags if you would rather choose stock first and finish second.

Order Foil Stamped Hang Tags

Pick your stock, size, quantity and any extra finishes above, and the price updates as you go — no quote request, no waiting a day for a number.

Your hang tag, or swing tag if that is the word you use, should do the same job as the rest of your packaging: make the product look like it belongs to a real brand. Foil is the finish that manages it in one small piece of board.
