What Are Announcement Cards?

Announcement cards are flat printed cards sized to standard envelopes, sent to tell people something. Weddings and save-the-dates are the obvious use, but they do at least as much work for businesses: a moved office, a new location, a change of ownership, a product launch, a seasonal offer, a thank-you after a big job.

You will also see them called invitation cards, save-the-date cards, flat cards, greeting cards, note cards or A-size cards. Same object, different occasion.

Sizes, and the Envelopes They Fit

Every size here is matched to an envelope you can actually buy off the shelf. That matters more than it sounds — a beautiful card in an odd size becomes a hunt for envelopes and a delay you did not plan for.

• 4.25" x 5.5" — fits an A2 envelope. The classic note and invitation size, and the most economical way to start.
• 4.25" x 6" — fits an A6 envelope. Slightly taller, a little more room for a date and a line of detail.
• 5" x 7" — fits an A7 envelope. The standard wedding invitation and save-the-date size.
• 5.5" x 8.5" — fits an A9 envelope. Half a letter sheet. Use it when there is genuinely more to say, or when you want the card to feel like an event in itself.
• 6" x 6" — square, fits a 6.5" x 6.5" envelope. Square reads as considered and modern, and it stands out in a stack of rectangles.

Card Stocks

Four stocks, and the difference is genuinely in the hand rather than on a spec sheet.

• 14pt Uncoated — bare, natural, and the one to choose if anyone will write on it. Takes pen and ink without smudging, which matters for RSVP cards and anything hand-addressed or hand-signed. Warm, quiet, unglossy.
• 16pt Matte — heavier, with a smooth matte coating front and back. No glare, photographs cleanly, and the most forgiving choice for a design with a lot of type. The safe default.
• 16pt UV Gloss — gloss on both sides. Colours sit up and deep tones look deeper. Best when the card is carrying a photograph or a strong block of colour, and it wipes clean.
• 16pt UV Gloss front, uncoated back — the useful hybrid. Gloss on the face where the customer looks, bare stock on the back where someone needs to write a note, a date or an address.

If you cannot decide between coated and uncoated from a screen, ask us for free samples first. Coating is the single thing people most often wish they had felt before ordering.

Square or Rounded Corners

Rounded corners are available as an option rather than a separate product, so you choose them here alongside your size and stock instead of hunting for a different page.

They are offered on the three 16pt stocks — Matte, UV Gloss, and UV Gloss front — at 4.25" x 5.5", 4.25" x 6" and 5" x 7". If you pick a combination that is not made, the option greys out and tells you why rather than quietly failing.

Rounded corners are not only decorative. Square corners are what bruise and fray first when cards move in a box or a bag, so on anything being posted or handed out in volume they earn their keep.

Printing on One Side or Two

Every size and stock prints full colour on one side or both. Two sides is usually the right answer — the back is where the details go: the date, the address, the RSVP line, the map, the terms, the website. A blank back is a wasted half of the card you have already paid to print.

Artwork Setup

Upload your artwork with the order, or email it afterwards — both are on the dropdown and neither costs extra. If you have a logo but no design, we will build one for $100. If you have a design that needs changes, that is $50, and we send a proof before anything prints.

One thing worth planning for: leave your important text well inside the edges. Cards are trimmed in stacks, and type sitting close to the trim is the most common reason a job comes back looking off-centre when the printing itself was fine.

Low quantities are genuinely available, not a token gesture. Not every announcement needs five hundred cards, and a small run of twenty-five for a single event should not mean paying for four hundred and seventy-five you will throw away.
