Description
Foil Embossed Business Cards
Foil embossed business cards combine two of the most premium finishing techniques in print: metallic foil and raised texture. The result is a business card that doesn’t just look expensive—it feels expensive. Foil catches the light. Embossing adds depth. Together, they create a bold, tactile first impression people remember.
If you’re comparing premium upgrades, you may also want to explore foil stamped business cards for metallic shine without texture, or embossed business cards for raised detail without foil. For gloss contrast instead of metallic, consider spot UV business cards. For custom shapes, check out die cut business cards.
What Is Foil Embossing?
Foil embossing is a finishing process where metallic (or pigmented) foil is applied with heat and pressure while the paper is simultaneously raised. This creates a dimensional, textured foil area that can be seen and felt. It’s ideal for logos, monograms, icons, borders, patterns, and premium typography—especially when you want a high-end, “built-not-printed” look.
Why Foil Embossed Business Cards Work
- Luxury Perception Instantly: Metallic shine + raised texture signals premium quality.
- Tactile Memory: People remember cards they can feel.
- High-Contrast Branding: Foil highlights key elements with clean, sharp impact.
- Perfect for Minimal Designs: Simple layouts look expensive when the finish is premium.
- Ideal for High-Touch Industries: Luxury, real estate, finance, design, and boutique services.
Paper Stocks & Finish Pairings
Foil embossing looks best on premium stocks that provide contrast and structure. Depending on your style, you can choose a classic, modern, or highly tactile foundation.
- Uncoated / Natural: Understated luxury with an organic feel.
- Silk / Soft-Touch: Smooth, modern, and high contrast against metallic foil.
- Textured Stocks: Adds an extra layer of tactile sophistication.
- Black Stock: Bold and dramatic—foil pops aggressively on deep black.
- Thicker Options: Heavier cards feel more premium and more memorable.
If you want metallic shine without raising, choose foil business cards. If you want raised texture without metallic, choose embossed business cards.

Artwork Setup & File Requirements
Foil embossing requires an additional setup file so we know exactly where to apply the foil and where to raise the stock. For best results, keep foil embossed areas clean, bold, and not overly thin—this helps edges stay crisp and the raised effect stay consistent.
- Preferred format: High-resolution PDF or EPS with outlined fonts
- Also accepted: JPG, JPEG, PSD, TIF, TIFF, EPS, AI, PNG
- Resolution: 300 DPI minimum
- Color mode: CMYK (RGB may cause color shifts)
Foil + Emboss Mask File
Create a separate black-and-white “mask” file showing where the foil emboss effect should be applied:
- Use only black (C=0, M=0, Y=0, K=100) to indicate the foil embossed areas.
- Anything white will be left alone (no foil / no emboss).
- If you have multiple upgrades (foil, emboss, die cut, spot UV), include a separate mask file for each finish.
Bleed, Crop Marks & Safe Zone
- Bleed: Extend background elements beyond the cut line.
- Safe zone: Keep text and critical elements at least 0.125" inside the cut line.
- Crop marks: Include crop marks on PDF/EPS files for accurate trimming.
- Flatten files: Flatten transparency where possible to avoid print issues.
