The Importance of Business Cards

Posted by Joseph Gruss on 25th Apr 2023

Business cards are often the forgotten stepchild of the business world. People are always talking about the latest and greatest technology, but when it comes to business cards, they’re like, “Meh, who needs ‘em?” Well, let me tell you, business cards are an important part of any businessperson’s arsenal. And not just because they make you look fancy and official.

First of all, business cards are a convenient way to give someone your contact information. Sure, you could just say, “Hey, let me give you my phone number and email address,” but that’s kind of awkward. And what if the person doesn’t have their phone handy? Or what if they’re terrible at remembering things? With a business card, you can just hand it over and be like, “Here you go, this has all my info on it. Feel free to call me anytime.” It’s simple, it’s easy, and it’s effective.

Business cards are also a great way to show off your creativity and personality. You don’t have to settle for a boring white card with black text, you can get creative with your design and really make your card stand out. Maybe you use a bright color scheme, or maybe you include a funny quote or cartoon on the back. Whatever you do, make sure it’s memorable. You want people to look at your card and think, “Wow, this person is awesome. I need to hang onto this card forever.”

And speaking of hanging onto cards forever, that brings me to my next point: business cards are a great way to network. When you attend conferences, trade shows, or other events, you’re going to meet a lot of people. Some of those people will be interesting, some will be boring, and some will be downright weird. But regardless of who they are, you should always ask for their business card. Not only does it give you their contact info, but it also gives you an excuse to follow up with them later. You can send them an email, connect on LinkedIn, or even send them a handwritten note.

Finally, I’d like to address a common misconception about business cards: that they’re outdated. Some people say that in the digital age, we don’t need physical cards anymore. We can just exchange contact info via email or social media. And while it’s true that technology has made communication easier, there’s still something special about handing someone a physical card. It shows that you’re serious about your business, and it gives the person something tangible to remember you by.

In conclusion, business cards are important. They’re convenient, they’re creative, they’re great for networking, and they’re not outdated. So if you don’t have business cards yet, go get some. And if you do have them, make sure they’re awesome. You never know when you’re going to meet someone who could be a new customer, employee or even business partner, so always be prepared.
